Every year, Forbes Magazine brings out a list of the highest paid celebrities of the year. Whether they are actors, musicians, TV personalities or athletes, most of these celebs have most certainly earned their right to top the list. Let’s take a look at the categories and who’s made the top 10 in 2018.
Three athletes have made it into the top 10 list this year: Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Floyd Mayweather. While Mayweather didn’t make the list last year, his fight against Conor McGregor in August 2017 generated more than $55 million in revenue. It comes as no surprise then that Floyd Mayweather has made it all the way to number 1 on the Forbes list of the World’s Highest-Paid Celebrities, with earnings of $285 million – and he’s only 41 years old!
The top earning actor for 2018, and number 2 on the Forbes list, is George Clooney. How, you may ask? Well, Mr Clooney cofounded Casamigos, a tequila company, and sold it to Diageo, a British liquor giant, for $700 million, making his earnings $239 million. The only other actor who made the Forbes top 10 list is Dwayne Johnson, who insists on huge upfront paychecks.
Believe it or not, the Irish band, U2, is in at number 6 this year, thanks to the 30th anniversary of their highly-acclaimed Joshua Tree album, together with a new studio album, Songs of Experience. Directly behind them is the UK band Coldplay, and Ed Sheeran just made the list at number 9, thanks to his sold-out stadium tours.
Kylie Jenner is the only person from the Kardashian clan that has made it into the top 10 this year, in part due to her cosmetic range. The other TV personality on the list is Judge Judy Sheindlin, with $147 million in earnings. The TV show Judge Judy is currently in its 22nd season and is still watched by more than 10 million people every day.

Even though the top 10 list is made up of athletes, actors, musicians and TV personalities, the Forbes list contains 100 names, and some of the other categories that have to be mentioned, include:
- Authors: James Patterson (#16) and J.K. Rowling (#42)
- Comedians: Jerry Seinfeld (#38), Kevin Hart (#39) and Dave Chappelle (#98)
An honourable mention goes to the only magician in the Forbes 100 list: David Copperfield. In at #33, Copperfield is the world’s richest magician, with more than 670 shows currently at the MGM Grand. He also owns 11 private islands in the Bahamas, where guests can see him perform live, if they’re willing to pay at least 6 figures to stay there.
